April is recognized a Genocide Awareness month at CHS. Why might a group use a policy of "ethnic cleansing" instead of "genocide"? How do you feel about "ethnic cleansing"? Does it make a difference? Should it be treated differently than a "genocide"?
Genocide: The deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group. Ethnic Cleansing: The elimination of an unwanted group from a society, as by genocide or forced migration. i think both these things are wrong to do. they both wipe out an entire population of people. Although genocide is the mass killing of a group of people, Ethnic cleansing isnt much better. it may not kill people but just force people to leave where they are but it is still wrong to do.

A group might use a policy of ethenic cleansing rather than Genocide because they might find it less harsh when in reality its the same thing. I think killing people just because you dont like what religion they are or they ideas or just the fact that you dont like them is truely wrong. No one should be killed for anything like that. I dont think it makes a difference. It might get rid of them but you can never get rid of everything you dont like. Ethenic Cleansing and Genocide should totally be treated the same. Also, I believe that every coutry should have a policy on Genoicde and Ethnic Cleansing.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, I think they are really just the same thing, they are both killing masses of a group of people because they are unwanted because of their race, religion, gender or anything else. all of these are simply unacceptable. killing a group of people to get rid of them is just down right wrong. Killing people is never right, especially when they have done no harm. They should be treated the same because they are the same. Killing others with no legitimate reason. It should not be tolerated anywhere.
ReplyDeleteA group might use a policy of ethnic cleansing instead of genocide because it doesn't sound as harsh. However in actuality, it is just as bad it doesn't make a difference. It should not be treated differently then a genocide because they are essentially the same thing. No matter what you call it, the mass murder of a certain group of people is absolutely unacceptable. They should be treated equally as severe and the world needs to step up to ensure this should be stopped immediately.
ReplyDeleteA group might use the term ethnic cleansing because it makes it sound like there is a purpose behind the mass killing, to get rid or cleanse a country of a certain race or religion. Where as with the term genocide, it just sounds like your slaughtering people just because you feel like it. I think that either way you look at it, both genocide and ethnic cleansing are wrong and should be treated the same because they both result in similar outcomes.
ReplyDeletea group might use the term "ethnic cleansing" because it doesnt give off such a harsh vibe as "genocide". they mean the exact same thing and the impact is just the same. using a lighter term will give off an impression that it is no big deal. i think that if people really looked into the different situations and knew what exactly was occuring, it shouldnt be treated as two different things.
ReplyDeleteNo one should be killed for anything like that. I dont think it makes a difference. . Also, I believe that every coutry should have a policy on Genoicde and Ethnic Cleansing.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, they are both the same thing. they are both mass killings of a group of people because of race, religion, or gender. killing a group just because you don't like "them" is wrong and they should never happen in the first place. and as far as the name goes, its doesnt matter if its called a genocide or ethnic cleansing. they are both mass killings that are wrong. every country should have laws or policies against them happening.
ReplyDeleteI beleive that ethnic cleasing is the same thing as genocide. They are both completely wrong and noone should be treated with that much disrepsect. Killing a person because they dont beleive that same things you do, act the same way,or if someone is just not the same racsim as you will not get you anywhere. Because no matter what noone will always do and act the way you want them too.
ReplyDeleteI think that the only real difference between genocide and ethnic cleansing is the way it sounds. Ethnic cleansing sounds much more professional and much less vulgar than genocide, although the ideas behind them both are the same. The annihilation of an race or nationality as a whole is disturbing and wrong. Killing someone because they are different from you and you can is no reason to do so.
ReplyDeleteI think ethnic cleansing and genocide are the same. They are both a mass killing of an unwanted group, race, religious group, sexual orientation group, physically or mentally hanicapped group. Both are totally wrong and usually there is no reason for it. The main reason why there is a genocide or ethnic cleansing is because people are ignorant or uneducated. Also most ethnic cleansing and genocide is powered by hate and propaganda. The Holocaust was all propaganda by Hitler and the Nazis. Most people backed the Holocaust is because there was such great propaganda people were consumed by it that they believed everything that was being said.
ReplyDeleteBecause it sounds better when someone says ethnic cleansing insted of a genocied, it makes it sound different almost better but for me it is the same thing it is killing a big number of people form the same ethnicity the same as genocide.
ReplyDeleteIt shoulendt be treated different because it is the same thing.
A group would use ethnic cleansing instead of genocide, because it sounds much better and people don't automatically assume the worst. I think ethnic cleansing should never be tolerated under any conditions. No one group of people should be discriminated against for their race or beliefs. I think there is no difference between Ethnic cleansing and genocide and that they shouldn't be treated differently. I think the genocide awareness month at CHS is very helpful because it allows us to hear stories about the hardships of people who had to endure a genocide.
ReplyDeleteI think the only reason a group would use the term ethnic cleansing is so people wouldnt think of the holocaust genocide. But it is the same thing, they are both about getting rid (killing) a certain group of people for their race. Which is horrible and both situtations should be treated the same, with punishment on the people doing this certain act!
ReplyDeleteEthnic cleansing is a nicer way of saying mass murdering of a group of people. It is genocide, they are the same thing. I think its all wrong..and that humans cant learn from there own mistakes. Even after the holocaust, and all of the world hearing about what happened, genocide still happens...people are making the same mistakes over and over again. Its going to keep happening unless everyone is educated...and trys to make a differance. People need to be aware of what it happening...so i think its great we have this at school. somehow, someone needs to take it further than an awareness month at schools though...we cant let this happen forever. Its not right
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i believe both ethnic cleansing and a genocide are very much alike. They both have to do with harming other people, whether it is killing them or eliminating them by taking them away from where they were. I think that ethnic cleansing compared to a genocide is not much better. In some way it is a nicer way of just killing someone, but totally wrong and unacceptable. It does make a slight difference because it is forcibly moving someone away from an area instead of deliberately killing them. I also think that everyone should be aware of both of these things and see how people were treated with two different concepts.....horribly!
ReplyDeleteI feel like they are basically the same thing. People might use ethnic cleansing over genocide because they might feel its not the same, but it is. I feel ethnic cleansing it just as bad as genocide. There is no difference and it should be treated the same. Both are horrible things that should never happen.
ReplyDeleteThe term "ethnic-cleansing" generally sounds less severe then a genocide. However, in reality, they are both the same thing. In my perspective they are the same thing. Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing are both ways that coward politicians use as excuses for things that they cannot control. Both genocide and ethnic cleansing are horrible, which is why i feel that April's genocide awareness month is important, because it spreads awareness of what is going on or what has happened around the world.
ReplyDeleteA group might use a policy of ethnic cleansing instead of genocide because it does not include the physical destruction to "rid" a certain group of people from an area. It does, however, force that certain group to flee, and in the process of doing so, destroys the personal belongings and other important, valuable things. I believe that ethnic cleansing, just like genocide, is terrible and heartless. I do not think that it should be treated any differently than genocide because both inhumane, degressive, and huge setbacks from a peaceful world.
ReplyDeleteethnic cleansing and genocide have basically the same meaning but ethnic cleansing doesn't sound like a mass murderer instead sounds more reasonable yet its not. both actions end up killing numerous amounts of people for no reason. derived from a groups of feeling of superiority. ethnic cleansing and genocide are both horrible demeaning to people.
ReplyDeleteGenocide is the systematic destruction of part or all of a specific group of people. Ethnic cleansing involves the removal of a specific group of people from one’s midst, whether through genocide or mass expulsions
ReplyDeletei think a group might put in place laws like this because of complete insanity or using this group as a scapegoat
Ethnic cleansing is just another way for those who are against another religion or race to proclaim a mass killing because of prejudice. Ethnic cleansing is just another way for people to avoid calling something a genocide, for example, look at the Armenian genocide, the young Turks wanted to build an empire and all that was in the way was the Christian Armenians, in-between them and their empire, at that time it was their belief that they had to cleanse the middle east of the Christian Armenians to reinforce the Turkish empire. Both cases are genocide bevcause they specify the cleansing of a certian race or Religion and both should be treated as an injustice to humanity.

Ethnic cleansing is very similar to genocide, but not completely the same. Ethnic cleansing is a term that can be used as a mass killing of a specific race, religion, or ethnic group, but can be also used as a migration of specific people from one area to another. Genocide is a used term for a mass murder of race, religion, or ethnic group. In my opinion, some people might used "ethnic cleansing" as a more gentle word, so they don't use such an evil word as "genocide".
ReplyDeleteI think that Ethnic Cleansing and Genocide are very similar. In my opinion i dont think that there is ever a reason to do either. The idea of delberitely destroying a group of people is terrible. I believe that ethnic cleansing and a genocide are awful and i think people who are preforming these terrible tasks use the word ethnic cleansing to hid the fact that in reality they are harming a group of innocent people.
ReplyDeleteWell, essentially, this is all I have to say on the subject: NO, NO, NO, NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT! Whenever I hear the word "genocide," I think of the Holocaust and other such exterminations of innocent people. And when I think of the Holocaust, I think of the destruction of hope and the killing of over 11 million people. Do you see something wrong with this picture? I hope so; I certainly do. However, the questions did ask about "ethnic cleansing," so fair enough. In my opinion, "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide" are really the same thing. It just so happens that genocide involves the direct killing of the designated people whereas ethnic cleansing involves a broader range of extermination methods. In other words, not just killing, but also emigration for example. Ethnic cleansing, when not involving mass murder, is obviously a better alternative to genocide, and this is probably the reason why some groups do end up using it instead. In conclusion, NEVER should any policies of genocide OR ethnic cleansing be used by any groups against any other people as it is wrong, unjust, unfair, etc. All humans have the right to sustain life and unless otherwise appropriately regulated, live wherever.

In my opinion ethnic cleansing are the same thing and should be treated the same as well. Ethnic cleansing just is used to make the events taking place sound less drastic or violent when in reality that is not the case at all
ReplyDeletei think Ethnic cleansign and Genocide are the same thing, because both mean kiil innocent people for no reason just because there something different like religion, sexual orientation etc.

There is no difference. The only reason would switch the "words" is to help their cause. Under the name of Ethnic Cleansing, a "nicer" and possibly more believable statement is made, then if someone comes out saying Genocide. The fact is, both terms have the same terrible meaning.
