i dont think so. we live in a free country and i think that should stay as it is. if they were to take away our freedom os speech it would no longer be a free country. for example if we didnt have the right to vote for a president or even for small stuff like presednt of school it wouldnt be fair if only a few people got to choose.
Never, if people didn't have freedom of speech, no one could have opinions. In other countries such as China, the media tells you what only they want you to know. People will believe whatever the government says, so they won't know whats going on in the world because they are getting all there information from the government. If you express your opinion on what you think is happening, you will be punished.
There is never a good reason to take away free speech, it is important to have this right because it allows us to live freely, and not live in fear of being punished because of what we think. Freedom of the press is also extremely important because it allows people to share their opinions with a much larger audience, and educate people on issues affecting their society. If freedom of speech and freedom of the press wasn't taken away when Hitler was in power, then people could have voiced their opinions, and convinced others that what he was doing was wrong.
No,because we wont be able to speak whats on are minds and maybe it can help change the world or give an idea on how to change or improve something that needs change or improvent
There is never a reason to take away a right that belongs to us. If we didn't have Freedom of Speech, the world wouldn't be what it is today. We wouldn't be able to express our ideas and create a huge disadvantage for us. If we didn't have this right, we would live in fear our whole lives of saying what we think or what we mean.
it is definitely not okay because we have a right to believe what we want and do what we please. if that was taken away, the constitution that so many people worked hard to have would be violated. also, in order for others in other countries or cities to be informed of what is going on around them, we should be permitted to publish the ideas that we need to get across in newspapers or magazines. It is important to have this right. we are even publishing our opinions about this blog entry on this website right now.
I do not think there is a real reason to take anyone's freedom of speech and freedom of press away from them. Everyone has their own ideas. If a communist leader took away peoples freedom of speech and freedom of press, then why would his rights not be taken away as well. That leader should not be able to do something like that. Also, if people were not able to say what they believe and think they would go mad, and im pretty sure the person that took these rights away from their countries citizen would not want a revolt of mad people.
No, I do not think that there is ever a good reason to take away anyone's freedom of speech or press because they are very important rights to us. Unfortunetly when Hitler came to power, many people didn't stand up for themselves and were left without the ability to be open minded or express themselves and millions of people lost their lives.
I do not think there is ever a good reason to take away the freedom of speech or press because they are fundamental to our human rights. These freedoms not only give us the ability to express our opinions, but also provide us with a sense of liberty. I believe people have interesting thoughts that always should be heard, whether or not these thoughts contradict with our government's. For example, in the 2009 presidential election, people felt very strongly about who they were voting for. Without the freedom of speech/press, these people would not be able to express, explain, or support their reasons for choosing a certain candidate. Thus, our rights to speech and press are essential to what America stands for, and should never be taken away.
There is not one good reason to take away our freedom of the speech and press. We live in America: Land of the Free. This isn't Russia. There are some people that go overboard and claim nasty remarks, but that's life. If a man wants to stand in front of a building with a megaphone and cuss all day...go for it. For example, in the Tobacco Free commercials, a group of people stand in front of major tobacco companies and prove that their product kills people. Nobody should ever be arrested for freedom of speech or press or punished at all. So my answer is no, there is absolutely no reason to take away freedom of speech or press.
seeing how everyone wrote pro frist amendment...ill say yes and no.
freedom of speech and freedom of press is wonderful but groups such as west baptist church, Ku Klux Klan, American Front, and Volksfront simply claim that their actions, and words should be excused as of their rights of americans. Even though they protest dead soliders funeral, picket through new york city proclaiming the Aryan race ect.
these groups thrive on their ability to say pretty much anything they want
no i dont think that freedom of speech is expendable but i believe it should be regulated more closely
so...matt is a winner...and i don't know how i'm supposed to follow that..but..it would be wrong if freedom of speech/press was ever taken away. but i think some of the things people say and do shouldn't be said or done
of course as americans we have freedom of speech...but i feel like maybe freedom of press is different...like it could be more influential...
people take time to read things like the newspaper, and when messed up things are printed, you take it in a lot more than hearing it from someone else...
then again there's mass groups of people who get together...and thats when someone needs to take control...but..im mostly just getting confused and contradicting myself..so im going to stop now
I dont think there is ever a good reason to take away our freedom of speech because thats what makes America, America. Our ability to express and say how we feel. But I think its just important for us to remember not to push our own opinions too far and try to force others to believe the same. And people should also respect that if there being able to express themselves they shouldnt criticize others and put them down just because they dont feel the same or share the same beliefs or thoughts.
No i do not think there is any good time to take away any right from any individual. These rights of free speech and freedom of press were given to us and we use them daily. If we take these rights away it will upset the balance that was already created years and years ago. The democracy in which we all can state our own opinions with become a dictatorship of solely one opinion...the ruler's. People in our world may abuse this power and make racial or rude comments, but this doesn't necessarily mean that these right ever have to be withdrawn or taken away from anyone. Like on myspace for example, people freely choose what they want to say, where they want to say it, and on myspace it is said to everyone.
If we had our rights taken away everyone would be the same. If our rights of freedom of speech and freedom of the press were taken away everyone would agree and disagree on the same topics. Having our rights taken away is bad because no one would be able to stand up for themselves on a matter they thought was important and had a different opinion on it then everyone else. This is what makes America great because if we didn't have these to rights everyone would be robots and there would be no diversity.
yes, i do believe there is a good reason to take away our freedom of speech and freedom of the press when the national security of the United States is at risk. I think this because i do not want to die and the press has been known to dramatize situations even before they happen therefore for national security reasons i think the press should have its boundries when our national security is at risk.
if we had no rights everyone would talk and act the same way, making us like robots. But with freedom of speech we can say what ever is on our minds with no one caring.with no freedom of speech, no one can stand up for themselves and say what they believe is right. That is why america is such an amazing place it is the land of the free.
Freedom of speech is a guaranteed right to all citizens of the United States. I feel that if it were to be taken away, our rights would be violated. However, in certain circumstances regarding national security, or for the safety of others, the right to freedom of speech can and should be suspended. However, i feel that Freedom of Speech makes our nation diverse, and the citizens proud to be American citizens.
There is never a good reason to take away free speech, it is important to have this right because it allows us to live freely, and say what we wanna say when we wanna say it. i feel that if it was taken away, nobody would ever have a say in things, and without that we wouldnt get anywhere as a whole. but there is a limit to what we can say. for instance, some groups such as the KKK and Volksfront thrive on there words and actions. so i believe that freedom of speech and freedom of the press are both very valuable resources in our society but there are very strick limits on both of them that can not be crossed
No i dont think there is ever a good reason for it to be taken away. It gives individuals and groups of people to say how the feel and if it was taken away people wouldn't be able to promote their feelings and beliefs. I think it would only be necessary to take it away from maybe a certain someone or a group of people who were threatening or causing problems using this right. But otherwise i don't think there is ever a good reason to take it away. If people didn't have freedom or speech or press people wouldn't be able to understand what was going on, like in the holocaust. Hitler took away their speech and rights and no one could explain and convince people what he was doing was wrong.
Actually, here in the United States, taking away citizens' Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Press would go against Amendment #1 of the US Bill of Rights. This amendment clearly states that all citizens (of the US) are entitled to Freedom of Speech and Press, along with some other "freedoms." If someone is a citizen of a country ANYWHERE, they should be entitled to these freedoms, no questions asked. They spent 14 or so years trying to get their citizenship; they should get something in return. In other words, there is absolutely no reason to take away from anyone these freedoms. Even if what the group or person wants to say or protest is without a doubt unjust and wrong, they should still be able to say/protest (i.e. the KKK.) Hitler was a cruel and disgusting dictator. All of those Jews were citizens of Germany, and therefore should not have been stripped of their freedoms. I think it is horrible: those Jews devoted themselves to Germany and obeyed all the laws, yet they were still treated so poorly.
No there is never a reason bacuase without freedom of speech and freedom of press people arent allowed to express their own ideas and/or opinions. It would create a closed society where no one has a say in anything. People would be forced to think different things which would lead to a "rebellion" against the government. If people could not express their opinion, and the wrong person came into power then they would force people to feel a certain way against other, just like Hitler did. Taking away our freedom of speech and freedom of press, I think could be the worst decision of that persons life.
I don't think there is ever a good reason to take away freedom of speech and freedom of press because this will just lead to everyone being influenced by government made ideas and propaganda. Doing this would make our country like Germany was under Hitler or how Italy was under Mussolini. Its not fair to say that any one persons idea is wrong. Its just there opinion and they should be able t express it either through speech or writing.
no there is never a good reason to take away our freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. Though at times such as in times of threats to national security it may seem appropriate, it is not right because America is a free country and we have the right to speak our minds no matter what we believe and when.
No freedom of speech should never be taken away from anyone because then people wouldn't have there say in anything or their own opinions. America is a free country so you can get away with alot of things and have our own say in anything. Freedom and press is very valuable to us today in our society, which pretty much work together in our country.
No, there is never a just time to take away a person's freedom of speech. Although I am jewish, I was still a little appauled when Mrs. Heukrodt had told us that recently in Turkey they passed a law that permitts the conviction of a citizen if he or she denounces the halocaust. While this is a terrible thing to say it is not a real event it would still violate the rights of the individual in our country. Also, I do not believe that freedom of speech is the right of the state rather than the sole right of the individual.
i think the answer is obveyous. Of course freedom of speech and press should be allowed. Without these freedoms, countries cannot truley serve its people. We are lucky enough to have these freedoms, and its these abilities that allow America to be a country for its people. By removing peoples rights, only problems can occur. In history these problems can be anything from small revolts to full blown revolutions, but all are negative impacts. the thoughts and ideas of citizens are what gives the country strength, and without them, we could not have the America that we know and love.
I dont think there is a reason to take away freedom of speach or freedom of press. If you don't agree with the media thats out there you don't need to read it. Everywhere you go someones going to have a diffrent opion, its not fair to take that away from because its diffrent or goes against your beliefs.
Taking away our freedom of speech and freedom of the press is taking away part of what makes The United States. I believe that it will never be a good idea to take away freedom of speech. We are extremely lucky to have these rights as citizens. Without freedom of speech and freedom of the press, we the citizens would never get to hear some of the peoples genius thoughts or ideas. The government can take complete control of everything.
There is never a valid reason to take away freedom of speech, it's important we have this right because it lets us live freely, and not live in fear of being punished because of your opinion. Without freedom of speech and freedom of the press, we would almost never hear some of the peoples genius thoughts or ideas.
